Desert Divas began in Mparntwe in 2010, created by Aboriginal female singer-songwriters to support other First Nations women in music. While offering professional development, it has grown into a powerful creative community—a space where women and girls come together to write songs, share stories, and build confidence. Through workshops, performances, and the quiet moments in-between, Divas fosters connection, culture, and creativity. Over 160 women have taken part, with many returning as mentors to support the next generation. It’s a place where our voices are strong, our stories are safe, and our identities are celebrated. As we mark 15 years in 2025, Desert Divas continues to grow—nurtured by the women who shape it and those who came before. This journey will be shared at BIGSOUND in a special panel discussion, reflecting on the impact, legacy, and future of this unique program led by, and for, First Nations women.
